HOTROC LAUNCH

HOTROC launch season:
late October - March

Weather can present complications.  So, ALWAYS verify
the launch schedule the evening before or morning of any Asa launch.

For those who've not seen the HOTROC site before, it is a large open 6,000 acre field with soft ground, no grass, visibility from launch to touchdown and intersecting field roads near the center of the site for easy access.

We fly thanks to the generous patronage of the land owners.  It is important that we leave launch sites at least as clean as they were before we attended.  Please pick up all debris for which you are responsible (and an item or two extra for good measure).

It is highly recommended that the following actions be taken for all SUMMER launches in Texas:

  •  *** Drink plenty of water before and during the launch.***
In extreme conditions, you should be drinking about 1 quart an hour.
Do not wait until you are thirsty.  At most your body can absorb about 1.5 quarts an hour but can lose up to 2 quarts an hour.  If you are thirsty, then your body is already dehydrated about 1 quart.
  • Avoid carbonated beverages, caffeine, and alcohol (which cause your body to loose water),
and avoid drinks with excessive sugar (which can impede water absorption).
(Choose water instead with an occasional sports drink instead to replace electrolytes
which are flushed out of your system in the heat.)
  • Wear light colored loose clothing, a hat, and sunscreen.
  • Never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle during hot weather, even for a short time.
  • Spend time in the shade.

Those at increased risk include youths (age 0-4), adults 65 and older, those with obesity, heart disease, fever, mental illness, poor circulation, sunburn, and those taking medications

Area Launch Calendar - by Art Applewhite

Schedule changes sometimes are not updated on consolidated calenders.
Always use the webpage hosted by the group organizing your launch
(i.e. DARS, AARG, NHRA) to verify scheduling and other details.

Some years there are more rain-outs than launches.  It is a good idea to take advantage
of any opportunities to attend  launches which occur during favorable weather.
