Experimental Launches

• AP and AN based composite propellant, candy motors, and NO2 based hybrids are allowed at HOTROC experimental launches.

  Reminder:  EX motors containing the following are specifically prohibited at this site:  double base propellants (i.e. AP, Nitroglycerine), use of catocene in excess of 3%, steel casings, liquid fuel motors, zinc/sulphur, black powder propellant.  We do not wish to inhibit this type of research but do not have the facilities i.e. bunkers or extreme standoff distances to allow safe firing of those motors at the HOTROC launch facility.
  

• Completion of the experimental questionnaire is required of fliers who have not flown experimental propellant at the HOTROC site before or who have limited EX experience.  (This requirement may be waived on an individual basis for experienced EX fliers.)
  
  The questionnaire is intended to promote safety and to assist fliers in achieving a successful burns without damage to their motors, rockets, or test stands.  Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have after downloading the questionnaire, you may have questions. (If you are doing only mix packs in the recommended grain and nozzle configurations, not all the information will be necessary.  Hopefully, it will provide assistance for further EX experimentation.)
  
  

• Completion of a HOTROC Research Launch Flight Card for each flight is required at all Tripoli Insured launches.  The flight summary must be filled out after the flight for Tripoli records.
  
  
• Test stands shall be at normal distances for the motor size and shall be oriented parallel to the flight line so that neither the forward or aft closure is pointed toward observers.
